Triple M radio host and AFL caller first. Ultra runner second — and only since 2016.

Before endurance sport, Liam Flanagan built a career in radio: he's hosted with Triple M and called AFL football for around twelve to fourteen years, and still co-hosts a Triple M show today alongside Olympic swimmer Liesl Jones, broadcasting out of the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Running came later. Liam played AFL into adulthood before taking it up properly in 2016 through a Sydney run club — Saturday-morning sessions with The 440 out of Bronte. It stuck. Since then he's progressed from weekend runs to the sharp end of ultra distance, signing up for a 100-mile trail race at Ultra-Trail Australia to see what would happen — and finishing it, debriefing the whole thing (no sleep, dark places included) in a dedicated special episode.

He co-hosts In The Beginning with two-time Olympian Courtney Atkinson, bringing a broadcaster's instinct for a good story to every conversation — and he's followed Courtney through two full Gold Coast Marathon build-ups on the show, asking the questions a first-timer actually wants answered.

Hear the full debrief: Liam Flanagan — UTA Miler, No Sleep & He Finished The Damn Thing, and follow the race build-up in the Gold Coast Marathon guide.
